AIRSKIN safe collision sensor for UR10
AIRSKIN is a safe collision sensor for industrial robotics. AIRSKIN covers the whole robot with soft, pressure sensitive pads. On collision, a safe stop signal is sent to the controller. AIRSKIN is safety certified according to ISO 13849 (PLe) and IEC 62061 (SIL3).
How does it work?
Soft, airtight sensor pads continuously monitor and reliably detect internal pressure changes due to deformations of the hull. Within 9 milliseconds after a collision, the electronics send a safe stop signal to the controller and the robot initiates its braking sequence. Remaining forces due to the stopping distance of the robot are absorbed by the soft padding.
The sensor pads cover the robot from base to tool. The autonomous pads are connected to the controller’s safety IOs by a 6-wire cable carrying two redundant safety channels. Constant self-diagnosis of the sensor pads ensures functional safety on the highest safety level.
